The Lenawee County fair is celebrating 175 years of bringing family fun to the entire county of Lenawee. The fair began in 1839 as a way to celebrate the harvest and promote agriculture, as well as exhibit animals and display local produce. The Lenawee County fair is the longest consecutive running fair in the entire state of Michigan. While there may be many different reasons to come to the fair this year, here are the top 5.
5. The Fun
The Lenawee County fair provides the perfect environment for creating fun family memories. You might have fun at the parade gathering candy as the participants pass by, or at the Fireworks show, cuddled together on a blanket. Magical fun can be had for free at the bandshell with a Magic by Stuart, or you can have fun shouting out your favorite song to be performed by the Dueling Pianos. These are just a few of the fun activities awaiting you at the fair.
4. The Concerts
The fairgrounds is filled with music all week long. While you may enjoy seeing current country music star Tyler Farr perform Whiskey on the Water, your significant other may prefer the soulful songs of the Motown Experience. You can enjoy the Christian concert with Sanctus Real, or laugh it up with 3 Men and a Tenor. From pop to country, and rock to oldies, you’ll find something for your listening pleasure at the fair.
3. The Rides
Big Rock Amusements is bringing you another fun year of rides and games. Whatever your age, you’ll find a ride that will get your heart pumping and the adrenaline rushing. Want to have even more fun? Visit the Midway for Twilight Dollar Day on Monday after 5 p.m. and a reduced wristband price for Kid’s Day on Tuesday. You can also purchase a Mega Pass and ride all the rides you want, as many times as you want, Monday through Saturday.
2. The Action
Lots of exciting, action-packed events are happening at the fair. This year, you can enjoy not one, but two Figure 8 Demolition Debry’s. See some rough and tough pulling action with the Antique Tractor Pull, the Super Stock Tractor Pull, and the Diesel and Gas Truck Pull. You will not want to miss the Tuff Truck and Car Competition to see who wins the ultimate title of “Tuffest”. You can purchase a Fun-Pak that will save you money while getting you into all of these action packed events.
1. The Food
Oh, the food! Fair food season is the best season all year! Recently on our Facebook page, we asked you to share your favorite fair food. The answers varied greatly, but there were many mentions of elephant ears, tacos, ice cream, french fries, corn dogs, steak, BBQ and deep fried everything! Leave your diet at home and indulge during fair food season.
