Description

Historic Blissfield offers an opportunity to truly embrace small town USA and celebrate four seasons of great local shopping, unique and award-winning dining, and fun-filled events for the entire family. Our scenic town offers great parks along the River Raisin and a gorgeous downtown area. Whether you’re passing through the area or planning a day trip, you’ll be welcomed with a warm embrace of midwestern values and small-town hospitality.

There’s a lot going on in Blissfield. We have several community events throughout the year including; the annual Yuletide Festival (November), Wassail Festival and Parade of Lights (December), Car and Bike shows (May-Sept.), Antiques on the Lane (May & Oct.), River Raisin Festival (July), Blissfield Bluegrass on the River (August), Art at your Feet (August), several local races (5K’s) and pop-up events.

Spring in Blissfield is beautiful. As the sun begins to shine a bit brighter, Blissfield once again springs to life. Experience Blissfield with a walk in the park, a downtown stroll, or with a stop on the bridge to reflect by the river. The options are only limited by your imagination and available time to explore our great town.

The Car & Bike shows are a clear sign that blue skies and easier living is amongst us. What’s better than an evening stroll with classic cars and great doo-op and Motown hits? Check out the custom bikes and antique cars at one of our five car shows in Historic Downtown Blissfield. If antique tractors are more your style, then we’ve got you covered! Join us for the annual Tractor Cruise-in in August. Proud owners will be showing off their antique farm tractors as well as brand-new, state-of-the-art farm equipment. The event will feature live music and great food specials from our downtown eateries. Last year we had 80+ tractors in attendance!

Are you an avid shopper or collector? Come check out one of our newer events, Antiques on the Lane. Enjoy a street market and sidewalk sale and great food! Featuring antiques, re-purposed furniture, primitives, industrial items, downtown merchants and more, there’s great shopping available for everyone!

As always, the Blissfield River Raisin Festival is a regional attraction. The Festival brings several attractions, including; fireworks, live music, carnival rides and games, fair food, a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, a men’s softball tournament, a parade, and various activities for children and adults. Come celebrate the heat of the summer and enjoy one of our great community traditions.

To top off the summer, be sure to enjoy a day of free bluegrass music by the lazy River Raisin in beautiful Bachmayer Park. Refreshments are available for purchase at the park, or you can take an easy walk downtown and grab a soda from the local soda fountain. If bluegrass isn’t your music of choice, wonder downtown and enjoy Art at your Feet, a sidewalk chalk art event for kids and adults alike. If you’re curious about the local artistic talent here in Blissfield, this is a can’t miss event!

As summer comes to and end and the fall leaves turn to rustic shades of your childhood, be sure to stop down and check out the local Rotary Club’s hotdog party and bonfire in Bachmeyer Park. From a costume parade to fun and games for both the young and old, this is an event to remember. Bring the whole crew to start a family tradition of your own! As the warmer temperatures fade and the beauties of winter set in, be sure to take a break and explore Blissfield and the adventure that awaits. Bundle up and grab a warm Cocoa because there’s a lot going on in Blissfield during the holidays and we’d hate for you to miss out on the fun.

Our Yuletide Cheer Festival is a “must attend” event for our region, as it has been held annually for over 40 years. The event features new family friendly ideas as well as grand prize giveaways, holiday business specials, and the great events you’ve come to know and love. In addition to the holiday shopping at Blissfield’s eclectic mix of stores, the Blissfield fire fighters will give Santa Claus a ride into town, followed by a tree-lighting, carols, and hot chocolate. Families can also enjoy breakfast and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the historic Hathaway House/Main Street Stable. Don’t forget to pet a few of Santa’s live reindeer while you’re here! We’ll be giving away over a thousand dollars in prizes throughout the weekend to local shoppers. From the local craft show at the elementary school to milk and cookies with Santa and various fun filled kid’s activities, your holiday season starts right here in Blissfield. We encourage you to enjoy the horse and carriage rides through town and low-cost train rides from the Adrian & Blissfield Rail Road. If your friends are shopping and you find yourself in a need to indulge, come try our beer tasting event or our chili cook-off competition! Yuletide Cheer weekend is one of our favorite events here in Blissfield, and as always, we invite you to come discover our historic town and enjoy our local tradition.

Our annual Wassail Festival is a staple community event. The competition is fierce for the honor of “Wassail Meister,” and contestants will be tweaking their favorite mulled cider recipes. With a new hand-crafted ceramic mug every year, come and enjoy fire pits/warming stations where carols and holiday music come second to only the holiday cheer downtown. Finally, we cap off our holiday events with our annual Parade of Lights as we once again welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus to town. Everyone looks forward to seeing the floats and tractors decked out with thousands of lights as our local businesses embrace the festivities and holiday spirit!
