Find Treasures and Deals during the Garage Sales on US-12 and US-127

Nearly 700 miles of antiques, collectables, second hand offerings and more await those that travel down US-127 between Hudson, Michigan and Gadsden, Alabama the weekend of the first Thursday in August.

Treasure hunters and collectors will flock to Lenawee County as both annual garage sales along US-127 and US-12 happen during the second weekend of August.

Nearly 700 miles of antiques, collectables, second hand offerings and more await those that travel down US-127 between Hudson, Michigan and Gadsden, Alabama the weekend of the first Thursday in August.

The Hudson Chamber of Commerce organized the Hudson citywide garage sales in the early 2000’s to take part in the US 127 sale. The brainchild of Mike Walker, the county executive of Fentress County, Tennessee, the event dates to 1987 and originally ran between Covington, Kentucky and Chattanooga, Tennessee.  In 2007 the event extended to the Michigan/Ohio border with the last major stop around Bryan, Ohio.  The Hudson Chamber of Commerce worked with the sale organizers to official extend the sale to Hudson and officially joined the route in 2010.

Hudsonites have taken the events of the weekend and expanded upon it.  Besides the town hosting over 60 rummage and yard sales (hudson127yardsale.com), the town offers several events during the long weekend. The Hudson Fire Department hosts a waterball tournament with local stations battling for bragging rights.  Music fills the air each night with the Chamber of Commerce (celebratehudson.com) hosting a band in Webster Park on Thursday night and the City of Hudson sponsoring a parking lot party on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Thompson Museum (thompsonmuseum.org) hosts several artists demonstrating various “lost arts” on the Saturday of the sale weekend including weavers, painters, quilters and more!. The Museum also offers an “antiques roadshow” style event as they host Roger Ponn Associated Appraisers as they offer verbal opinions of value for your antiques and collectables (fee applies).  The 1890’s house is also open for tours during the weekend’s events. Rumors in Hudson (212 W. Main St.) is a great stop for lunch or dinner.

The US-12 Garage Sales stretch across 8 counties, and nearly 200 miles in Southern Michigan from New Buffalo to Detroit. Maps are available online at us12heritagetrail.org. In Lenawee County, sales are offered from the Village of Clinton westward through the Irish Hills. Enjoy a scenic drive and unique garage sale finds including collectibles, household items, furniture and homemade items.

The Village of Clinton will host a farmers market on Friday, August 7 on the corner of US-12 and Jackson Rd.

Mark your calendars for the US 127 (August 6-10) and US-12 Garage Sale (August 7-10) and find a place to stay near both sales!
